Me, Myself and MRI |
|
Me, Myself and MRI is a 2-year sci-art project, funded by the Wellcome Trust Arts Awards and Arts Council England.
The core project team, all founding members of Geodesic Arts, are Kirsty Halliday (project manager), Mark Hildred (technical producer) and Damian Murphy (lead artist). They will work with a group of secondary school pupils from Archbishop Holgate's School towards the creation of a touring digital portraiture gallery. Other team members include John Oxley (video artist), Kippa Matthews (photographer) and Griselda Goldsbrough (art historian). The exhibition will use contemporary digital creative technology to explore the perception of self using neuroimaging datasets, photography, video and audio. Throughout the project the young people will learn about the history of medical imaging and how contemporary techniques, such as MRI and MEG, work. They will also explore the relationship between the development of medical imaging techniques, the development of portraiture as an artform and the development of the concept of the individual in society. The exhibition will tour to three venues in 2009 - National Science Learning Centre (Jan - Feb 09), York Hospital (Mar 09) and Impressions Gallery - tbc (Spring/Summer 09) Project partners are: York Neuroimaging Centre, Archbishop Holgate's School and the National Science Learning Centre, with additional support from SightSonic and York Museums Trust. |
